If you are going abroad for a core element of the programme such as an Elective or European Studies final year placement, and your placement has had travel approval by the programme and University, you will be covered by the University’s Travel Insurance policy. You are not required to contact anyone to register for this but should ensure you have completed all required forms in the university’s My Placement system prior to travel. In the event of any incident, whether or not it may lead to a claim, you should use the emergency contact details listed on the University’s Travel Insurance Policy Document.
If you are not a UK national and will be travelling back to your home country for your Elective or other placement abroad (for example, European Studies placement), please note that the University’s Travel Insurance will not cover your medical expenses. Therefore, you must ensure you have your own adequate health insurance to cover all medical expenses in the event of an emergency. All other aspects of the University Travel Insurance will apply.
Any student who plans to stay overseas following their placement must arrange their own independent travel insurance to cover them for the additional period.
If you have any queries relating to the University’s Student Travel Insurance, contact the Insurance Office on: insurance@manchester.ac.uk
Any overseas placement that takes place as part of the programme must adhere to the University’s Travel Approval Process.
