At times during the Programme, students are likely to require reference letters. For instance; Self-arranged placements, jobs in the vacation periods, intercalation applications, and eventually for Foundation Programme applications.
If the reference request requires confirmation of a student’s status, this can be requested from the Information, Advice and Guidance team via sms.hub@manchester.ac.uk.
Academic Transcripts can be requested from the Assessment & Progression team via medical.transcripts@manchester.ac.uk.
Where a personal/character reference is required, students may approach their year leads or academic advisor on the Programme (Years 1, 2 and GEM), or a hospital dean and/or academic advisor (years 3-5), but please bear in mind that this is considered a personal reference, not a representation of the Medical Programme. Students should ensure that the member of staff is happy to provide a reference before putting their name forward and that they are made aware if there is any question of professionalism issues in the past or pending prior to providing a reference.
If the reference is to be provided for a Fitness to Practise Committee the student should make the tutor/supervisor aware of this prior to the reference being provided.
