The MB ChB Programme educates, supports and prepares medical students for practice in the healthcare systems of today and the future. Our graduates will be able to apply knowledge, intellectual and practical skills to understand and manage the complex healthcare needs of individuals and society, whilst developing the resilience to meet the demands of changing healthcare environments.

The aim of the Manchester MBChB Programme is to ensure that our students not only meet the required standards for graduation and provisional registration to practice, but seek to exceed them wherever possible through the application of their metacognitive skills. This will be achieved by the delivery of a curriculum that is innovative, challenging and rigorously quality assured. In educating, training and preparing our students for clinical practice the University will provide a robust programme that meets the needs of students, patients and society now and in the future.

Key aims:

• To produce students who actively and creatively take part in the construction of their knowledge through the desire to find solutions to clinical questions and problems;
• To ensure that students learn from teaching and learning activities and from planned and opportunistic clinical experiences;
• To enable students to develop subject knowledge alongside discipline-specific and transferable skills;
• To provide flexibility in the approaches to learning so that a student can optimise their own personal learning style;
• To support the development of self-directed learning;
• To ensure the use of reflection for learning, assessment and personal and professional development;
• To promote the development of reasoning and leadership skills required for tackling complex clinical problems that occur in the real world;
• To ensure students develop the key skills necessary for practice in modern healthcare systems.
