The aims of the Knowledge Understanding and Reasoning (KUR) Test in the GEM Year are to assess knowledge and understanding relating to all learning across the year. It will take place during the summer exam period.

The GEM Year KUR will comprise of 200 questions, split into 2 x 100 item (2hr) papers on 2 different days. This will be treated as 1 paper when determining the results.

The examination will comprise of multiple-choice questions with a choice of a single best answer from 5 options, testing specific knowledge where there is a stem including a clinical or bioscience vignette/scenario. Areas covered within the questions will relate to topics covered within PBL case material and supplementary teaching strands e.g. ethics & law/evidence-based medicine and anatomy. The summative KUR test will be delivered on campus via an electronic exam platform using University devices.

When setting examination papers, some questions will inevitably be more difficult than others. We use well-established measures to correct for this and ensure fairness for all students. The pass mark for the KUR will be determined by an expert panel using the Ebel standard-setting procedure.

The results will be classified as: Unsatisfactory (U), Satisfactory (S), Honours (H) and Distinction (D).
