The Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health (FBMH) has adopted a dress code to ensure that all students are appropriately dressed when they are in clinical situations on NHS premises or in other professional circumstances such as Clinical Competency Assessments and PPDportfolio reviews.

You must adhere to the dress code when you are in these situations; failure to do so may result in you being asked to leave the session and missing out on an assessment or learning opportunity.

Please also note for infection control and patient safety issues you will need to adhere to the NHS Trust Dress Code wherever you are placed.

For Students in Years 1, 2 and GEM

Please note that the guidance applies when wearing own clothes on Early Clinical Experience.

For Students in Years 3-5

Please note that each of the four CECs have introduced work wear (sometimes known as uniform or scrubs) for medical students on placement. These will be branded with the University of Manchester medicine logo so that undergraduate students can be easily identified on placement. This will support you as you will not have to buy additional sets of professional clothing for placement. Each CEC will liaise with students individually to provide these. Students should follow trust/GP practice recommendations regarding laundering and use/change of workwear/uniform/scrubs.
