Continuing from Year 1 you will be provided with a list of intended learning outcomes (ILOs) at the beginning of Year 2 accompanied by clear guidance of the type of evidence for each learning outcome you are expected to enter into your PPD portfolios.
Throughout Year 2 PPD group sessions will continue throughout the year, facilitated by specialist PPD group tutors. This year PPD group tutors will introduce you to concepts surrounding diversity and unconscious bias, probity and professionalism and reflecting on your strengths and limitations. These sessions will enable you to discuss learning experiences with your peers and are an important way to share examples of best practice in an open and supportive environment. There will also be additional workshops and events available to you during each semester such as Schwartz Rounds and Doubleday Webinars to help your understanding of professionalism.
It is of the utmost importance that all entries in your PPD portfolios are completed honestly and with integrity and are based on your own experiences. Students must not plagiarise or fabricate material. All students will therefore be required to complete a ‘Declaration of Probity’ for Year 2 at the beginning of the academic year. Whilst there is no formal assessment of your PPDportfolio at the end of the academic year, you will still be expected to address the ILOs.
Academic Advisors
You will remain with the same Academic Advisor from Year 1 for your individual meetings throughout Year 2. Your Advisor will continue to provide you with guidance and support with regard to your personal and professional development and provide feedback on your development in reflective writing skills and as an independent learner.
Meetings with Advisors
During Year 2 you will meet your Academic Advisor individually once or twice during each semester. Meetings with your Advisor are mandatory and will focus on specific learning outcomes and qualities essential to being a future doctor as well as your own personal development. Throughout the academic year, your Advisor will record your attendance at meetings and submit forms summarising your progress and plans discussed.
Failure to attend these meetings or lack of engagement with your PPD portfolio will lead to a referral to the Academic Lead for PPD Years 1 & 2 to provide extra support or a further referral as required. If there are serious concerns, this may lead to a referral to the Associate Programme Director for Professionalism or the Concerns Review Panel.
