Cookie Statement

About this Cookie Statement

A cookie is a small piece of data (text file) that a website – when used by a visitor – asks your browser to store on your device in order to remember information about you, such as your language preference or login information.  Those cookies are set by us and are called First Party cookies.  We do not use Third Party cookies when you log into 1Med.  The cookies used when you log into 1Med help us make the website function properly, make the website more secure, provide a better user experience, and understand how the website performs and to analyse what works and where it needs improvement.

This Cookie Statement explains how we use cookies in the context of 1Med.  It is provided to help you understand the information we are collecting and why, how that information is used and how to control your cookie preferences.  For further information on how we use, store and keep your personal data secure, please see The University of Manchester Registered student Privacy Notice.

When you navigate around 1Med, you may see that the URL in your browser changes depending on which resource you are accessing.  Please see the table below to confirm which cookies are used in which part of the 1Med and why.

How do we use cookies?

Similar to most online services, our website uses cookies for a number of purposes. In the main, the cookies we use are necessary for the website to function the right way; none of them collects any of your personally identifiable data. They are used to understand how the website performs, how you interact with the website, keeping our services secure, providing you with an optimised user experience and to help speed up your future interactions within 1Med. In this context, we do not collect personally identifiable data and the data we do collect is not shared with any third party. All personal data is stored securely in your profile on the system and not associated with the statistics we collect for improving site performance and behaviour.

What types of cookies do we use?

2. Performance

These cookies store information like the number of visitors to the website, the number of unique visitors, which pages of the website have been visited, the source of the visit and your navigation of the site etc. This data helps us understand and analyse how well the website performs and where it needs improvement. The information collected by these cookies is not used by any third parties.

3. Preferences

These cookies help us store your settings and browsing preferences like language preferences so that you have a better and more efficient experience on future visits to the website.

The below list details the cookies used when accessing 1Med:

* Information on these cookies is not available via the third party websites (as linked above) as they are specific to 1Med and may not be widely used on other sites.  The Strictly Necessary cookies denoted by the asterisk in the list above are session cookies; their purpose is to keep you logged on to the 1Med suite of applications when navigating around the site.  The Performance/Preferences cookies help to optimise the experience of 1Med users.

How can I control the cookie preferences?

You cannot opt out of Strictly Necessary cookies, as these are essential to the functionality of the website.  Should you wish to opt out of Performance or Preference cookies, you can do so, but please be aware that 1Med will no longer function as optimally as it could.

If you wish to opt out of any of the non-Strictly Necessary cookies, the process to do so will depend on the browser you are using.  Below are some instructions on this for commonly used browsers:

If you later decide that you wish to re-enable non-Strictly Necessary cookies, you will also be able to do so via your browser.

To find out more out more on how to manage and delete cookies, you may wish to consult an external source such as https://allaboutcookies.org/how-to-manage-cookies.
