The University of Manchester is required by law to maintain, so far as is reasonably practicable, healthy and safe conditions for everyone on the campus.

It is imperative that you carry out any health and safety instructions given to you by members of University staff.

The University provides mandatory health and safety training for all students.

This training will be completed through a Canvas-based online course. Details of the required training will be provided at the beginning of the academic year. Failure to successfully complete the course by the required deadline may result in you being excluded from practical classes. Exclusion from such classes will be treated in the same way as other missed attendances and can affect your progress on the Programme.

Placements:

Ensure that you are familiar with the emergency arrangements for any building you are in by reading the notices displayed in the corridors.

You will receive full health and safety instructions for all practical sessions with your practical handbooks. Further details concerning health and safety in the laboratories are contained in the Laboratory and Practical Work section. You will also be required to adhere to a code of conduct to work within the anatomy dissection room.

During Early Clinical Experience clinical placements you will be briefed on local health and safety procedures and arrangements. It is your duty to comply with these arrangements.

All accidents whether involving injury or not, must be reported to the placement provider and the University. In some cases the placement provider may have a system in place for forwarding this information to the University. Alternatively the forms for accident/incident reporting can be found within the Policies, Guidance and Forms section of this handbook.
