For Years 3 to 5, students learn primarily though clinical placements delivered in partnership with our clinical education providers in the NHS. For this period, each student is based at one of our four clinical education campuses and attends placements on the campus and with other associated clinical placement providers across the North West, including: Acute hospitals, general practice and community-based services.

Our four clinical education campuses are:

• Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LTHTR)(known as Preston).
• Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT): Oxford Road.
• Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT): Wythenshawe Hospital.
• Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA) (Formerly known as Salford Royal).

Each clinical education campus has a Hospital Dean with an Undergraduate administrative support team based in the hospital. This gives you access to a comprehensive pastoral and academic support system through each of the Undergraduate Education Centres and most students build a strong relationship with members of the administrative and academic staff in their clinical education campus. The network of academic, administrative and student support within the wider University and the Programme based in the Stopford building will also remain available to you as you move into and continue through your clinical years.

You will be informed of your clinical education campus allocation at the end of your first Semester in Year 1/GEM Year.

As part of the allocation process, extenuating circumstances may be taken into consideration by the Programme but only if they meet the criteria in the MBChB Policy on Allocation to Clinical Education Campus and if there are sufficient spaces available at the clinical education campus.

Prior to starting at your allocated hospital, the Undergraduate team at your Clinical Education Campus will invite you to complete a considerations form for Years 3 to 5 placements.

If you have extenuating circumstances, (in line with the same criteria as in the policy above), that may impact on your ability to attend placements at particular locations within the area, you have the opportunity to state this and the team there will assess whether any further accommodations can be made. You are expected to attend at District General Hospitals (DGHs) associated with your Clinical Education Campus as an essential part of the programme and whilst it may be possible for your Clinical Education Campus to make some adjustments, you should be aware that placements have been set up to be as equal and fair as possible across your cohort.

It is important to note that for some speciality placements, it may not be possible to deliver these at your Clinical Education Campus or at any of the DGHs associated with your Clinical Education Campus, so you will be expected to travel. Examples of speciality placements which may take place off-site include Neurology, Infectious Diseases and Ophthalmology. Transfer of Information to Clinical Education Campuses

You will also be asked to complete a Transfer of Information Form at the end of Year 2/GEM Year (the Programme will provide you with this form at the time needed). The information from this form will be provided to the team at your Clinical Education Campus to identify any particular support needs you may have so they can support you locally.
