MBChB Academic reps serve as a vital link between the student body and both the University and its affiliated teaching sites on all course-related matters. Their primary role is to gather feedback, concerns, and suggestions from fellow students and communicate these to academic staff and decision-making bodies
within the Trusts, the School and, where appropriate, the wider University.

Academic reps play an essential role in shaping the student experience. By representing the views of their cohort, they help influence changes and improvements to courses, teaching, and learning resources. They attend programme-level meetings and may also participate in university-wide discussions, ensuring students’ voices are heard at every level of decision-making.

Year 4-5 roles are advertised in June for the following year.  Years 0-3 roles are advertised in September.

Students apply via self-nomination by the advertised deadline, by submitting an online form. As part of their application, students are asked “What makes an effective academic rep and what you can bring to the role?”

If multiple eligible applications are received, a random selection will be made by the Student’s Union, who offer impartiality.

Once roles are confirmed, all applicants will be notified of the outcome by the SMS Information Advice and Guidance Team.
